Menopause Diet Podcast: A Food-First Approach to Hormone Balance

If you’re going through perimenopause or menopause, you may feel surrounded by supplements promising to help with hot flushes, mood changes, poor sleep and other symptoms.

Supplements can certainly have a place, but I always encourage women to ask a simple question first:

Have you really exhausted the food-first approach?

In this episode of the Principles of Good Health podcast, I explain why the foundations of your diet matter so much during menopause and the foods I encourage women to include regularly.

In This Episode

I talk about:

  • why I believe food should come before automatically reaching for supplements
  • protein, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates
  • blood sugar balance and hydration
  • reducing ultra-processed foods
  • phytoestrogen-rich foods such as flaxseeds, chickpeas, sesame seeds and fermented soya
  • cruciferous vegetables and oestrogen metabolism
  • why gut health matters during menopause
  • fermented foods including kefir, sauerkraut and kimchi
  • the importance of fibre and healthy elimination

There is no single perfect menopause diet and no one food that will suit every woman.

What matters is building strong nutritional foundations and then looking at what your own body needs.
