Local, expert support for your gut, your energy and your wellbeing
I am Caroline Peyton, a naturopath and registered nutritional therapist with my Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, a comfortable drive from Tetbury. The clinic serves clients across Tetbury, Beverston, Westonbirt, Avening, Nailsworth, Long Newnton and the surrounding south Cotswolds villages. There is also a Swindon clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, SN1 4AB, and online consultations cover anyone elsewhere in the UK.
The clients who reach me from Tetbury are often people who have done their homework. They have spoken to the GP, perhaps had blood tests or a scope, and walked away with a label and not much in the way of a real plan. They are ready for a more personalised approach.
That is what I do. I take a thorough naturopathic case history, look for the underlying drivers, and build you a clear plan you can actually follow. Sometimes that includes specialist gut testing, sometimes it does not. Always it is personalised, sustainable and explained in plain English so you understand exactly why we are doing what we are doing.
If you are ready to stop guessing, the first step is a free 20-minute discovery call. No pressure, no obligation. We work out together whether nutritional therapy is the right next step for you.
Acid reflux: why suppressing the acid is rarely the answer
Acid reflux is one of the most common reasons people end up on long-term medication, often for years. It does provide relief. But for many people, the underlying cause is the opposite of what is being treated, and the symptoms come back the moment the tablets stop.
What stomach acid is actually for
Stomach acid is part of the body’s first line of defence. It breaks down protein, releases minerals from food, signals downstream digestion, and kills opportunistic bugs that come in with food. Strong stomach acid is a feature, not a bug. The real question is why the lower oesophageal sphincter is letting acid up, not why there is acid in the first place.
Why the sphincter loosens
Eating too quickly or in a stressed state. Large late meals. Pressure from bloating below. Hiatus hernia. Certain foods that physically relax the sphincter. And, surprisingly often, low stomach acid itself, which slows gastric emptying and increases pressure on the sphincter from below.
The downstream cost of long-term suppression
Less protein digestion. Reduced absorption of B12, iron, magnesium and zinc. Microbiome shifts because acid is no longer doing its gatekeeping job. Increased risk of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. None of this means do not take medication where it is needed. It means address what is driving the reflux so the medication is not the only line of defence.
How we work on it
We address how, when and where you eat first. We look at the gut microbiome, motility and any signs of overgrowth. Where appropriate we support stomach acid and digestion gently and rebuild from there. Always alongside, never against, your GP and any current medication.

Naturopath, Nutritionist and Gut Health Expert
In my first year of nutrition studies I recognised what I now explain to all my clients: health really does start in the gut. As I sorted out my own digestion, my overall vitality improved and my skin cleared up. Why had no-one ever shown me how important gut health is? That question shaped my entire practice.
I qualified with a Diploma in Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy in 2009 and have been in clinical practice ever since. Along the way I helped launch the Naturopathic Nutrition Association and chaired it for seven years, ran the Natural Healthcare College as Principal for five years, and in June 2024 I was invited onto the Board of the General Naturopathic Council, the UK regulator for Naturopathy.
What that means for you, in plain terms: you are working with someone who has done this for over 15 years, who genuinely cares about gut health, and who is held to professional standards that put your wellbeing first.

What clients in and around Tetbury say
A small selection from the full reviews page. Real clients, real words, lightly excerpted.
When I met Caroline I felt really unwell with multiple symptoms. I had been to the doctors but I wished to pursue a more natural approach to my health first. Caroline took the time to listen to me, she asked lots of questions and was very understanding. She gave me such clear explanations that I was able to go away and implement her advice straight away.
Following a Dexa scan in January 2018, I wanted to take action for my bone health and to take a natural approach to my health. Caroline took the time to review my diet and supplements and was especially interested to support digestive and gut health to help absorption of minerals and other nutrients. I have found working with Caroline a positive experience.
I have been impressed by Caroline’s breadth of knowledge and her patient, encouraging manner with thorough explanations about my test results, recommended supplements and treatments. She takes a holistic approach which I believe is essential for any digestive issue. I would recommend Caroline without hesitation.
It was apparent from the start that her questioning was very thorough, professional and adapted to focus on whatever the particular issues could possibly be. I’d had very uncomfortable abdominal gripes and pain for over a year, bloating and exhaustion. The changes over several months and now nearly a year have been significant.

Tetbury nutritionist FAQs
If your question is not answered below, just ask on the discovery call.
Where is your clinic for Tetbury clients?
The Cotswolds clinic is at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, a comfortable drive from Tetbury. There is also a Swindon clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, SN1 4AB. Online consultations via Zoom are available for clients elsewhere in the UK.
Do I have to come in person, or can I see you online?
Both work well. Many Tetbury clients choose in person for the first consultation so we can include iridology, tongue and nail analysis, and then run follow-ups by Zoom. If travel is awkward, the entire programme can run online from the start.
Which areas around Tetbury does your clinic cover?
The Kempsford clinic is conveniently located for clients across Tetbury, Beverston, Westonbirt, Avening, Nailsworth, Long Newnton and the surrounding south Cotswolds villages. For anyone further afield, online consultations cover the rest of the UK.
Is nutritional therapy the same as being a dietitian?
No. Dietitians are NHS-trained clinicians who typically work with diagnosed conditions. Naturopathic nutritional therapists work with the whole picture, look for root causes, take a longer case history, and use functional testing where clinically useful. The two roles are complementary, not interchangeable.
Will I have to give up bread, dairy or coffee?
Not as a default. I rule things in, not out. Once digestion, microbiome balance and stress responses improve, most people find they tolerate a far wider range of foods than they expected. Targeted, time-limited removals are sometimes useful, but lifelong restriction is rarely the goal.
Do you offer functional testing?
Yes, where it is clinically useful. We use comprehensive stool testing, SIBO breath testing, hormonal profiles, hair tissue mineral analysis and other targeted tests as appropriate. We will only recommend a test if it is likely to genuinely change the treatment plan.
Can I work with you if I am already on medication?
Yes. Naturopathic nutrition is designed to sit alongside your existing medical care, not replace it. I do not advise on medication and never ask a client to stop or alter prescriptions without their GP. Where supplements interact with medication, I check carefully before recommending.
What if I am not in the UK?
Online consultations work globally via Zoom. Any functional testing kits we use are couriered to you. Clients in different time zones are welcome.
