Local, expert support for your gut, your energy and your wellbeing
I am Caroline Peyton, a naturopath and registered nutritional therapist with my clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, Swindon, SN1 4AB, a short drive from Marlborough up the A346. The clinic serves clients across Marlborough, Pewsey, Aldbourne, Ramsbury, Burbage, Mildenhall and the surrounding Kennet Valley villages. There is also a Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, and online consultations cover anyone elsewhere in the UK.
Marlborough lives at a particular kind of pace: high-pressure work, busy family life, long commutes, and not much downtime in between. The clients who reach me have usually tried the obvious things. They have spoken to the GP, perhaps had a blood test or a scope, and walked away with a label like IBS or “stress” and not much in the way of a plan. The bloating keeps coming back. The energy still does not return.
That is what I do. I take a thorough naturopathic case history, I look for the underlying drivers, and I build you a clear plan you can actually follow. Sometimes that includes specialist gut testing, sometimes it does not. Always it is personalised, sustainable and explained in plain English so you understand exactly why we are doing what we are doing.
If you are ready to stop guessing, the first step is a free 20-minute discovery call. No pressure, no obligation. We work out together whether nutritional therapy is the right next step for you.
How chronic stress sabotages your digestion
Stress is one of the most under-recognised drivers of digestive symptoms. It does not just take the edge off your appetite. It changes the chemistry of your gut in real time, and for clients living a busy Marlborough life, it is often the first place we look.
Eating in fight-or-flight mode
Digestion is a parasympathetic process. It only happens properly when the body is in a relaxed state. Eating between meetings, in the car, or while answering emails sends a clear signal to the gut: now is not the time to digest. Stomach acid, digestive enzymes and bile all drop. Food sits, ferments, bloats and irritates the gut lining.
The vagus nerve and rest-and-digest
The vagus nerve is the main physical link between your brain and your gut. When the nervous system is locked in a low-grade fight-or-flight pattern, vagal tone drops, motility slows or speeds up unhelpfully, and the microbiome starts to shift. Restoring vagal tone is often the cheapest and quickest first move we make.
The patterns to recognise
Bloating that flares after a stressful meeting. Urgency before a commute. Acid reflux during a busy week that vanishes on holiday. Energy that crashes mid-afternoon. These are not separate problems. They are one nervous system shouting through a different organ each time.
What to do before reaching for tests
For many clients, the highest-impact first changes are about how, when and where they eat, not what they eat. Sit down. Slow down. Breathe before the first bite. We layer in functional testing only if symptoms persist after the basics are in place. Tests follow the case, not the other way around.
The patterns I see most often in Marlborough clients
Many of the clients I see fall into one of these patterns. If two or more feel familiar, a discovery call is a sensible next step.

Naturopath, Nutritionist and Gut Health Expert
After a 20 year career in the corporate sector, I returned to study and graduated with a Diploma in Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy in 2009. I established Peyton Principles to provide personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes that help people lead happier, healthier and more active lives.
Along the way I helped launch the Naturopathic Nutrition Association and chaired it for seven years, ran the Natural Healthcare College as Principal for five years, and in June 2024 I was invited onto the Board of the General Naturopathic Council, the UK regulator for Naturopathy.
What that means for you, in plain terms: you are working with someone who has done this for over 15 years, who takes the time to understand the whole picture, and who is held to professional standards that put your wellbeing first.

What clients in and around Marlborough say
A small selection from the full reviews page. Real clients, real words, lightly excerpted.
I have had two consultations with Caroline since last November. I initially approached her for some advice regarding ongoing joint pains. I have found Caroline to be extremely professional throughout. She has taken the time to explain her recommendations to me and has provided clear advice that suits my lifestyle and budget.
I have always been a fit, active and healthy person, but after a nasty 100+ day virus with chest, sinus and ear complications, and three courses of antibiotics and other drugs, my digestive system was totally messed up and I was feeling awful. After completing a questionnaire and lengthy personal consultation an eating plan and supplements were suggested.
Caroline has very in depth knowledge and understanding of her subject and is definitely expert level. She really helped me understand that it was much more complex than I realised and how nutrition was used in my body and why I was experiencing the symptoms I did. She gave me a feeling of empowerment over what and how to eat.
Before I sought help from Caroline I was suffering from very painful and swollen knee and shoulder joints. Caroline went through my general health and suggested various changes in my diet with additional natural supplements added. I would recommend Caroline (Peyton Principles) to anyone, she is very professional and knowledgeable in her field.

Where is your clinic for Marlborough clients?
The Swindon clinic is at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, Swindon, SN1 4AB, in Old Town Swindon, a short drive from Marlborough up the A346. There is also a Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG. Online consultations via Zoom are available for clients elsewhere in the UK.
Do I have to come in person, or can I see you online?
Both work well. Many Marlborough clients choose in person for the first consultation so we can include iridology, tongue and nail analysis, and then run follow-ups by Zoom. If travel is awkward, the entire programme can run online from the start.
Which areas around Marlborough does your clinic cover?
The Swindon clinic is conveniently located for clients across Marlborough, Pewsey, Aldbourne, Ramsbury, Burbage, Mildenhall, Great Bedwyn and the surrounding Kennet Valley villages. Hungerford clients are also within easy reach. For anyone further afield, online consultations cover the rest of the UK.
Is nutritional therapy the same as being a dietitian?
No. Dietitians are NHS-trained clinicians who typically work with diagnosed conditions. Naturopathic nutritional therapists work with the whole picture, look for root causes, take a longer case history, and use functional testing where clinically useful. The two roles are complementary, not interchangeable.
What is iridology and why do you use it?
Iridology, alongside tongue and nail analysis, is a traditional naturopathic assessment tool. It is one extra source of information that, combined with a detailed case history and any functional tests, helps me build a fuller picture of your health. It is never used in isolation and never as a diagnosis.
Will I have to give up bread, dairy or coffee?
Not as a default. I rule things in, not out. Once digestion, microbiome balance and stress responses improve, most people find they tolerate a far wider range of foods than they expected. Targeted, time-limited removals are sometimes useful, but lifelong restriction is rarely the goal.
How much time will I need to commit between consultations?
Plans are designed for real life. Most clients spend an extra 20 to 30 minutes a day on shopping, prep and supplements in the early weeks. As habits land, the time investment drops to almost nothing. Time is one of the things we plan around.
Can I work with you if I am already on medication?
Yes. Naturopathic nutrition is designed to sit alongside your existing medical care, not replace it. I do not advise on medication and never ask a client to stop or alter prescriptions without their GP. Where supplements interact with medication, I check carefully before recommending.
