Why a nutritionist for Highworth

Local, expert support for your gut, your energy and your wellbeing

I am Caroline Peyton, a naturopath and registered nutritional therapist with my clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, Swindon, SN1 4AB, only a few miles from Highworth. The clinic is conveniently located for clients across Highworth, Stanton Fitzwarren, Hannington, Sevenhampton, Stratton St Margaret, South Marston and the surrounding north Wiltshire villages. There is also a Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, and online consultations cover anyone elsewhere in the UK.

The clients who reach me from Highworth are usually people who have been quietly struggling for a while. The bloating that comes and goes. The energy that does not return after a weekend off. The IBS label that does not really change anything. They have done the rounds and they want a better answer.

That is what I do. I take a thorough naturopathic case history, look for the underlying drivers, and build you a clear plan you can actually follow. Sometimes that includes specialist gut testing, sometimes it does not. Always it is personalised, sustainable and explained in plain English so you understand exactly why we are doing what we are doing.

If you are ready to stop guessing, the first step is a free 20-minute discovery call. No pressure, no obligation. We work out together whether nutritional therapy is the right next step for you.

Educational deep-dive

The microbiome, explained without the jargon

Your gut is home to trillions of microbes, and they shape far more of your health than most people realise. The headlines change every few months. The fundamentals do not. Here is what is worth knowing.

The Myth
“A daily probiotic is enough to look after your microbiome.”
The Reality
A diverse, well-fed microbiome is built by what you eat, not what comes in a capsule.
01

It is an ecosystem, not a population

Your gut microbiome is more like a rainforest than a colony. Bacteria, yeasts and other microbes coexist, compete, signal each other, and respond to what you eat, drink, take and feel. When the ecosystem is in balance you barely notice it. When it tips, almost every system in the body feels it.

02

Diversity is the marker that matters

The single biggest predictor of a robust microbiome is diversity. The more different species you support, the more resilient your gut. The single biggest driver of diversity is what you eat. Plants, in particular: vegetables, fruit, herbs, nuts, seeds, pulses, whole grains. Variety beats quantity.

03

Antibiotics, stress and ultra-processed food all shift it

Antibiotics save lives but blunt diversity. Chronic stress changes which species thrive. Ultra-processed food feeds the wrong end of the ecosystem. None of these are deal-breakers on their own. Stacked over years, they reshape the gut, often quietly, until symptoms force a reckoning.

04

Testing the microbiome, when it is useful

Comprehensive stool testing can give us a much sharper view of what is going on: which species are dominant, which are missing, how digestion is performing, signs of inflammation or intestinal permeability. We use it where the picture is not clear from the case history alone, and only when the result will change the plan.

Does this sound like you?

Highworth clients usually come to me from one of these places

If two or more of these scenarios feel uncomfortably familiar, a discovery call is a sensible next step.

You feel exhausted, but every blood test comes back normal. You know in your body that something is off, but no-one has been able to tell you what or why.
You have been told it is “just IBS”. The label has not made the bloating, the urgency or the unpredictability go away, and you are tired of structuring your week around your bowels.
It started after antibiotics or a stomach bug. You were fine before. Now your digestion, your skin or your energy has never quite recovered, and the cause feels obvious to you.
Perimenopause has changed everything. The symptoms you used to manage are flaring. Sleep, mood, weight, digestion and skin all feel like moving targets.
You have tried every elimination diet on the internet. Each one helps for a fortnight then stops. Your “safe foods” list keeps shrinking and you are quietly worried about where it ends.
You want a proper plan, not another prescription. You are open to functional testing where it is genuinely useful, and you would rather understand your body than mask the symptoms.

About Caroline Peyton

Naturopath, Nutritionist and Gut Health Expert

In my first year of nutrition studies I recognised what I now explain to all my clients: health really does start in the gut. As I sorted out my own digestion, my overall vitality improved and my skin cleared up. Why had no-one ever shown me how important gut health is? That question shaped my entire practice.

I qualified with a Diploma in Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy in 2009 and have been in clinical practice ever since. Along the way I helped launch the Naturopathic Nutrition Association and chaired it for seven years, ran the Natural Healthcare College as Principal for five years, and in June 2024 I was invited onto the Board of the General Naturopathic Council, the UK regulator for Naturopathy.

What that means for you, in plain terms: you are working with someone who has done this for over 15 years, who genuinely cares about gut health, and who is held to professional standards that put your wellbeing first.

Real local clients

What clients in and around Highworth say

A small selection from the full reviews page. Real clients, real words, lightly excerpted.

“Oh do I wish I had found Caroline earlier!”

My problems started a long time ago mainly due to work life sending stress direct to my gut. I’ve tried various people over twenty five years but I’m sorry to say they simply do not have the right expertise. Caroline’s extensive knowledge and expertise has changed my situation considerably. I can now enjoy and digest a number of foods.

Nakeeta, Swindon
“Caroline’s dietary advice was simple and very easy to follow.”

When I first signed as a Professional Boxer I needed to dramatically change my diet so that I could lose over a stone, in order to achieve my fighting weight, whilst at the same time maintaining high energy levels in order to support an intensive training regime. The dietary advice given was simple and very easy to follow and most important of all it was extremely effective.

Andrew McCaffrey, Swindon
“Within two days I felt the difference and was on the road to recovery.”

I have always been a fit, active and healthy person, but after a nasty 100+ day virus with chest, sinus and ear complications, and three courses of antibiotics and other drugs, my digestive system was totally messed up and I was feeling awful. After completing a questionnaire and lengthy personal consultation an eating plan and supplements were suggested.

Mary, Swindon
“I am now thankfully pain free with minimal discomfort and no swollen inflamed joints.”

Before I sought help from Caroline I was suffering from very painful and swollen knee and shoulder joints. Caroline went through my general health and suggested various changes in my diet with additional natural supplements added. I would recommend Caroline (Peyton Principles) to anyone, she is very professional and knowledgeable in her field.

Common questions

Highworth nutritionist FAQs

If your question is not answered below, just ask on the discovery call.

Where is your clinic for Highworth clients?

The Swindon clinic is at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, Swindon, SN1 4AB, in Old Town Swindon, only a few miles from Highworth. There is also a Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG. Online consultations via Zoom are available for clients elsewhere in the UK.

Which areas around Highworth does your clinic cover?

The Swindon clinic is conveniently located for clients across Highworth, Stanton Fitzwarren, Hannington, Sevenhampton, Stratton St Margaret, South Marston and the surrounding north Wiltshire villages. For anyone further afield, online consultations cover the rest of the UK.

How is your approach different from the NHS?

The NHS does an excellent job of acute care and ruling out serious disease. Where it has less time and capacity is for the slow, complex, multi-symptom cases that need a long case history and a personalised plan. That is exactly the gap a naturopathic nutritionist fills. We work alongside, not against, your GP.

What does the 5 Month Gut Restore programme actually involve?

Six consultations spread across five months. The first is a deep case history. The next sessions implement and refine your plan based on how your body responds, including any functional testing where it is clinically useful. The five-month timeline is deliberate: gut health responds to consistent change, not crash interventions.

How do you decide which functional test (if any) to run?

Tests follow the case, not the other way around. After the first consultation, if the picture is unclear or if a specific marker is likely to change the plan, we discuss whether a particular test is worth running. We never run tests speculatively.

What is iridology and why do you use it?

Iridology, alongside tongue and nail analysis, is a traditional naturopathic assessment tool. It is one extra source of information that, combined with a detailed case history and any functional tests, helps me build a fuller picture of your health. It is never used in isolation and never as a diagnosis.

Will I get recipes?

You will get practical food guidance tailored to you, including suggested meals and snacks, and a “what a typical day might look like” structure. The point is sustainable changes you can build into a busy real life, not a 200-page recipe book that sits on the shelf.

What is the GNC and why does it matter?

The General Naturopathic Council is the regulator for Naturopathy in the UK. As a Board Member, I help shape the professional standards that any naturopath in the UK should be held to. For you as a client, it means working with someone whose accountability is public and verifiable.
