Why a nutritionist near Cirencester

Local, expert support for your gut, your energy and your wellbeing

I am Caroline Peyton, a naturopath and registered nutritional therapist with my Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, a short drive from Cirencester. The clinic serves clients across Cirencester, Tetbury, Stroud, Fairford, Lechlade, South Cerney, Kemble and the surrounding Gloucestershire villages. There is also a Swindon clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, SN1 4AB, and online consultations cover anyone elsewhere in the UK.

Most of the people who find their way to me have been around the houses already. They have spoken to the GP, perhaps had blood tests or a scope, and walked away with a label like IBS or “stress” and not much in the way of answers. The bloating keeps coming back. The energy still does not return. They want a proper plan, not another prescription.

That is what I do. I take a thorough naturopathic case history, I look for the underlying drivers, and I build you a clear plan you can actually follow. Sometimes that includes specialist gut testing, sometimes it does not. Always it is personalised to you, sustainable in real life, and explained in plain English so you understand exactly why we are doing what we are doing.

If you are ready to stop guessing, the first step is a free 20-minute discovery call. No pressure, no obligation. We work out together whether nutritional therapy is the right next step for you.

Educational deep-dive

Why bloating is not “just one of those things”

Bloating has become so common that many people now treat it as background noise. It is not. Bloating is a clear signal that something in the gastrointestinal tract is not working as it should. The good news: where you feel it usually points to where the problem lives.

The Myth
“Cut out gluten, dairy and onions and the bloating will sort itself out.”
The Reality
Food exclusions rarely fix bloating on their own. Poor digestion, microbiome imbalance and sluggish motility usually need to be corrected first.
01

Where you feel it tells a story

Bloating that begins within 45 to 60 minutes of eating is most often a stomach issue, often linked to low stomach acid, slow gastric emptying or eating in a stressed state. Bloating that creeps in two or three hours later usually points to the small intestine. Discomfort that arrives in the evening or stays into the next morning tends to live in the large intestine. Same symptom, three completely different conversations.

02

It is rarely just the food

Most clients arrive convinced a specific food is the villain. It almost never is. The more useful question is why your gut is reacting at all. Once digestion, microbiome balance and bowel motility are restored, most people find they can tolerate a far wider range of foods than they thought possible. We rule things in, not out.

03

Other clues matter

Wind, burping, acid reflux, cramping, urgency, constipation or alternating bowel habits all sit alongside bloating and tell us where to look. A detailed naturopathic case history pieces these together so we are not chasing one symptom in isolation. The pattern is the diagnosis.

04

Targeted testing only when it changes the plan

Where the picture is not yet clear, comprehensive functional testing can give us a much sharper view of the microbiome, digestive efficiency and intestinal permeability. We only run a test if the result is genuinely going to change what we do next. Testing for the sake of testing is not how I work.

Does this sound like you?

Cirencester clients usually come to me from one of these places

If two or more of these scenarios feel uncomfortably familiar, a discovery call is a sensible next step.

You have been told it is “just IBS”. The label has not made the bloating, the urgency or the unpredictability go away, and you are tired of structuring your week around your bowels.
You feel exhausted, but every blood test comes back normal. You know in your body that something is off, but no-one has been able to tell you what or why.
It started after antibiotics or a stomach bug. You were fine before. Now your digestion, your skin or your energy has never quite recovered, and the cause feels obvious to you, but no-one will engage with it.
Perimenopause has changed everything. The symptoms you used to manage are flaring. Sleep, mood, weight, digestion and skin all feel like moving targets, and the standard advice is not landing.
You have tried every elimination diet on the internet. Each one helps for a fortnight then stops. Your “safe foods” list keeps shrinking and you are quietly worried about where it ends.
You want a proper plan, not another prescription. You are open to functional testing where it is genuinely useful, and you would rather understand your body than mask the symptoms.

About Caroline Peyton

Naturopath, Nutritionist and Gut Health Expert

I was an overweight child who loved food, puddings, chocolate and cake. After university I threw myself into corporate life, juggling a pressurised job with twin daughters, drained, stressed and dealing with confidence-zapping skin conditions. The light-bulb moment came when I realised I was passionate about nutrition and health, and so began a five year journey into naturopathy and gut health.

I qualified with a Diploma in Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy in 2009 and have been in clinical practice ever since. Along the way I helped launch the Naturopathic Nutrition Association and chaired it for seven years, ran the Natural Healthcare College as Principal for five years, and in June 2024 I was invited onto the Board of the General Naturopathic Council, the UK regulator for Naturopathy.

What that means for you, in plain terms: you are working with someone who has done this for over 15 years, who takes the time to understand the whole picture, and who is held to professional standards that put your wellbeing first.

Real Cirencester clients

What clients in and around Cirencester say

A small selection from the full reviews page. Real clients, real words, lightly excerpted.

“Working with Caroline has been a life changing experience for me.”

It was apparent from the start that her questioning was very thorough, professional and adapted to focus on whatever the particular issues could possibly be. I’d had very uncomfortable abdominal gripes and pain for over a year, bloating and exhaustion. The changes over several months and now nearly a year have been significant.

Matthew, Cirencester
“I am so thankful to Caroline for all the help!”

Before reaching out to Caroline I was experiencing issues with my stomach and over time it was getting increasingly worse with cramps, urgent dashes to the toilet and an increasing anxiety of leaving my house or eating any foods that weren’t bland and plain. After visits to doctors and having tests, they ruled it as stressed induced IBS but I was determined not to live my life on permanent medication to relax the gut. I can safely say after the 4-month consultation period I am 1000000% in a healthier and happier place, both mind and body.

Bali, Cirencester
“I’ve been impressed by her breadth of knowledge and patient, encouraging manner.”

She takes a holistic approach to treatment, which I believe is essential for any digestive issue. Over the last few months, things have greatly improved and even surpassed my expectations with my digestion returning to a better state than it has been for a number of years and I am far more in tune with it. I would recommend Caroline without hesitation.

Fiona R, Cirencester
“Now in February 2025 I would describe my health position as basically ‘fixed’.”

I decided to find some professional help after the NHS had proved to be unable to help me at all, despite several consultations. At that time (May-August 2024) I was in a really bad way with diarrhea. She takes a holistic approach and gave me some great dietary advice. I took a specialist microbiome test and based on the results of this, she was able to help with recommending a regime of supplements which varied over the six months that she helped me.

Common questions

Cirencester nutritionist FAQs

If your question is not answered below, just ask on the discovery call.

Where is your clinic for Cirencester clients?

The Cotswolds clinic is at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, a short drive from Cirencester and convenient for Fairford and Lechlade. There is also a Swindon clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, SN1 4AB. Online consultations via Zoom are available for clients elsewhere in the UK.

Do I have to come in person, or can I see you online?

Both work well. Many clients choose in person for the first consultation so we can include iridology, tongue and nail analysis, and then run follow-ups by Zoom. If travel is awkward, we can run the entire programme online from the start.

Which areas around Cirencester does your clinic cover?

The Kempsford clinic is conveniently located for clients across Cirencester, Tetbury, Stroud, Fairford, Lechlade, South Cerney, Kemble and the surrounding Cotswolds villages. Cheltenham clients are also within easy reach. For anyone further afield, online consultations cover the rest of the UK.

What is iridology and why do you use it?

Iridology, alongside tongue and nail analysis, is a traditional naturopathic assessment tool. It is one extra source of information that, combined with a detailed case history and any functional tests, helps me build a fuller picture of your health. It is never used in isolation and never as a diagnosis.

How is your approach different from the NHS?

The NHS does an excellent job of acute care and ruling out serious disease. Where it has less time and capacity is for the slow, complex, multi-symptom cases that need a long case history and a personalised plan. That is exactly the gap a naturopathic nutritionist fills. We work alongside, not against, your GP.

Can I bring previous test results?

Yes, please do. Recent blood tests, scope reports, microbiome tests, food sensitivity panels or anything else relevant. The more context I have, the less likely it is that we run tests you do not need.

What does a typical first consultation look like?

The first consultation runs for around 90 minutes. We work through a detailed naturopathic case history covering your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, diet, sleep, stress and family history. Where appropriate we include iridology, tongue and nail analysis. You leave with initial recommendations and a clear sense of what we will do next.

Will I get recipes?

You will get practical food guidance tailored to you, including suggested meals and snacks, and a “what a typical day might look like” structure. The point is sustainable changes you can build into a busy real life, not a 200-page recipe book that sits on the shelf.
