Why a nutritionist for Cheltenham

Local, expert support for your gut, your energy and your wellbeing

I am Caroline Peyton, a naturopath and registered nutritional therapist with my Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, a comfortable drive from Cheltenham. The clinic serves clients across Cheltenham, Bishop’s Cleeve, Charlton Kings, Prestbury, Winchcombe, Leckhampton and the surrounding Cotswolds villages. There is also a Swindon clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, SN1 4AB, and online consultations cover anyone elsewhere in the UK.

Most of the people who reach me from Cheltenham have done their homework. They have spoken to the GP, perhaps had blood tests or a scope, and walked away with a label and not much in the way of practical help. They want a real plan, not another prescription.

That is what I do. I take a thorough naturopathic case history, look for the underlying drivers, and build you a clear plan you can actually follow. Sometimes that includes specialist gut testing, sometimes it does not. Always it is personalised to you and explained in plain English so you understand exactly why we are doing what we are doing.

If you are ready to stop guessing, the first step is a free 20-minute discovery call. No pressure, no obligation. We work out together whether nutritional therapy is the right next step for you.

Educational deep-dive

The naturopathic approach to chronic, multi-symptom cases

“Naturopath” can mean different things in different settings. Here is what it means in my practice, why it shapes how I work, and what to expect if you have not seen a naturopath before.

The Myth
“Naturopathy is about avoiding modern medicine and just using herbs.”
The Reality
Naturopathy works alongside modern medicine. It addresses the underlying terrain so the body has the conditions it needs to heal.
01

The whole picture, not the loudest symptom

A naturopathic case history is long because the body is not made of separate compartments. Sleep, stress, digestion, hormones, mood, skin and energy are all linked. Symptoms in one system are usually clues about another. We follow the threads rather than chasing one symptom in isolation.

02

Look for what allowed it

The presenting symptom is often the loudest part of the story, not the most important. A naturopathic plan looks for the conditions that allowed the symptom to develop in the first place. Fix those, and the symptom often resolves on its own. Treat only the symptom, and it tends to come back wearing a different costume.

03

Least intervention, most information

Diet, lifestyle, sleep, stress work and targeted nutrients come first because they support the body’s own systems. Functional testing comes in where the picture needs sharpening. Pharmaceuticals have their place and we work alongside, never against, your GP. The principle is simple: the gentlest effective intervention first.

04

Treat the person, not the diagnosis

Two clients with the same diagnosis can need very different plans because they are very different people. Genetics, history, lifestyle, stress, hormonal stage and personal goals all matter. Naturopathic plans are not protocols. They are bespoke, and they are designed to fit the life you actually live.

Who I work with

The patterns I see most often in Cheltenham clients

Many of the clients I see fall into one of these patterns. If two or more feel familiar, a discovery call is a sensible next step.

The perimenopausal flare. Symptoms you used to manage are flaring. Sleep, mood, weight, digestion and skin all feel like moving targets, and the standard advice is not landing.
The exhausted-but-test-normal client. You know in your body that something is off, but every blood test comes back normal and no-one will engage with it.
The chronic IBS sufferer. Years of unpredictable bowels, every elimination diet tried, still no clear answer.
The high-stress executive. Long days, irregular eating, bloating that flares with deadlines and energy that crashes by mid-afternoon.
The post-antibiotic gut. Things were fine until that course of antibiotics or a stomach bug abroad. Digestion has never quite returned.
The “I want a real plan” client. You are open to functional testing where it is genuinely useful, and you would rather understand your body than mask the symptoms.

About Caroline Peyton

Naturopath, Nutritionist and Gut Health Expert

In my first year of nutrition studies I recognised what I now explain to all my clients: health really does start in the gut. As I sorted out my own digestion, my overall vitality improved and my skin cleared up. Why had no-one ever shown me how important gut health is? That question shaped my entire practice.

I qualified with a Diploma in Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy in 2009 and have been in clinical practice ever since. Along the way I helped launch the Naturopathic Nutrition Association and chaired it for seven years, ran the Natural Healthcare College as Principal for five years, and in June 2024 I was invited onto the Board of the General Naturopathic Council, the UK regulator for Naturopathy.

What that means for you, in plain terms: you are working with someone who has done this for over 15 years, who genuinely cares about gut health, and who is held to professional standards that put your wellbeing first.

Real local clients

What clients in and around Cheltenham say

A small selection from the full reviews page. Real clients, real words, lightly excerpted.

“My digestion is in a better state than it has been for a number of years.”

I have been impressed by Caroline’s breadth of knowledge and her patient, encouraging manner with thorough explanations about my test results, recommended supplements and treatments. She takes a holistic approach which I believe is essential for any digestive issue. I would recommend Caroline without hesitation.

Fiona R, Cirencester
“Working with Caroline has been a life changing experience for me.”

It was apparent from the start that her questioning was very thorough, professional and adapted to focus on whatever the particular issues could possibly be. I’d had very uncomfortable abdominal gripes and pain for over a year, bloating and exhaustion. The changes over several months and now nearly a year have been significant.

Matthew, Cirencester
“I can’t believe the difference her suggestions have made. Amazing.”

When I met Caroline I felt really unwell with multiple symptoms. I had been to the doctors but I wished to pursue a more natural approach to my health first. Caroline took the time to listen to me, she asked lots of questions and was very understanding. She gave me such clear explanations that I was able to go away and implement her advice straight away.

Tania, Cirencester
“It is not an exaggeration to say that seeing Caroline has transformed my life.”

I decided to find some professional help after the NHS had proved to be unable to help me at all, despite several consultations. At that time I was in a really bad way with diarrhea. She takes a holistic approach and gave me some great dietary advice. Now in February 2025 I would describe my health position as basically “fixed”.

Common questions

Cheltenham nutritionist FAQs

If your question is not answered below, just ask on the discovery call.

Where is your clinic for Cheltenham clients?

The Cotswolds clinic is at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, a comfortable drive from Cheltenham. There is also a Swindon clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, SN1 4AB. Online consultations via Zoom are available for clients elsewhere in the UK.

Do I have to come in person, or can I see you online?

Both work well. Many Cheltenham clients choose in person for the first consultation so we can include iridology, tongue and nail analysis, and then run follow-ups by Zoom. If travel is awkward, the entire programme can run online from the start.

Which areas around Cheltenham does your clinic cover?

The Kempsford clinic is conveniently located for clients across Cheltenham, Bishop’s Cleeve, Charlton Kings, Prestbury, Winchcombe, Leckhampton and the surrounding Cotswolds villages. For anyone further afield, online consultations cover the rest of the UK.

What is iridology and why do you use it?

Iridology, alongside tongue and nail analysis, is a traditional naturopathic assessment tool. It is one extra source of information that, combined with a detailed case history and any functional tests, helps me build a fuller picture of your health. It is never used in isolation and never as a diagnosis.

How is your approach different from the NHS?

The NHS does an excellent job of acute care and ruling out serious disease. Where it has less time and capacity is for the slow, complex, multi-symptom cases that need a long case history and a personalised plan. That is exactly the gap a naturopathic nutritionist fills. We work alongside, not against, your GP.

What does the 5 Month Gut Restore programme actually involve?

Six consultations spread across five months. The first is a deep case history. The next sessions implement and refine your plan based on how your body responds, including any functional testing where it is clinically useful. The five-month timeline is deliberate: gut health responds to consistent change, not crash interventions.

What is the GNC and why does it matter?

The General Naturopathic Council is the regulator for Naturopathy in the UK. As a Board Member, I help shape the professional standards that any naturopath in the UK should be held to. For you as a client, it means working with someone whose accountability is public and verifiable.

What if I am not in the UK?

Online consultations work globally via Zoom. Any functional testing kits we use are couriered to you. Clients in different time zones are welcome.
