Local, expert support for your gut, your energy and your wellbeing
I am Caroline Peyton, a naturopath and registered nutritional therapist with my clinic at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, Swindon, SN1 4AB, a comfortable drive from Calne. The clinic serves clients across Calne, Cherhill, Bromham, Hilmarton, Compton Bassett, Yatesbury, Quemerford and the surrounding villages. There is also a Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG, and online consultations cover anyone elsewhere in the UK.
Most people who come to me have been around the houses already. They have spoken to the GP, perhaps had blood tests or a scope, and walked away with a label like IBS and not much else. The bloating keeps coming back. The energy still does not return. They want a real plan, not another prescription.
That is what I do. I take a thorough naturopathic case history, look for the underlying drivers, and build you a clear plan you can actually follow. Sometimes that includes specialist gut testing, sometimes it does not. Always it is personalised, sustainable and explained in plain English so you understand exactly why we are doing what we are doing.
If you are ready to stop guessing, the first step is a free 20-minute discovery call. No pressure, no obligation. We work out together whether nutritional therapy is the right next step for you.
Why an IBS label rarely changes anything
An IBS diagnosis is, by definition, a diagnosis of exclusion. Serious things have been ruled out, no clear cause has been found, and the symptoms have a recognisable pattern. That is useful for a GP. It is rarely enough for the person living with it.
Same label, different stories
Two clients with the same IBS diagnosis can have completely different underlying drivers. Microbiome imbalance, low stomach acid, food sensitivities, slow motility, post-infection changes, stress, perimenopause and bile flow issues all present as IBS-shaped symptoms. The label is the question, not the answer.
What a good case history reveals
When symptoms started. What changed in the months before. The pattern across the day. The link with stress and the menstrual cycle. The response to specific foods. Previous antibiotic use, infections, travel. Most cases tell their own story once you ask the right questions, and most plans flow naturally from that story.
When testing actually adds value
If the picture is unclear after the case history, comprehensive functional testing can sharpen it: stool testing for the microbiome and digestive markers, breath testing for SIBO, hormonal profiles for cycle-linked symptoms. We only run a test if the result will genuinely change what we do next.
Why your plan will not look like a friend’s
Because the drivers differ, the plans differ. One client needs a microbiome rebuild. Another needs vagal tone work. Another needs hormonal support. Another needs to address food chemistry rather than food groups. There is no universal IBS protocol because there is no universal IBS.
The patterns I see most often in Calne clients
Many of the clients I see fall into one of these patterns. If two or more feel familiar, a discovery call is a sensible next step.

Naturopath, Nutritionist and Gut Health Expert
I was an overweight child who loved food, puddings, chocolate and cake. After university I threw myself into corporate life, juggling a pressurised job with twin daughters, drained, stressed and dealing with confidence-zapping skin conditions. The light-bulb moment came when I realised I was passionate about nutrition and health, and so began a five year journey into naturopathy and gut health.
I qualified with a Diploma in Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy in 2009 and have been in clinical practice ever since. Along the way I helped launch the Naturopathic Nutrition Association and chaired it for seven years, ran the Natural Healthcare College as Principal for five years, and in June 2024 I was invited onto the Board of the General Naturopathic Council, the UK regulator for Naturopathy.
What that means for you, in plain terms: you are working with someone who has done this for over 15 years, who takes the time to understand the whole picture, and who is held to professional standards that put your wellbeing first.

What clients in and around Calne say
A small selection from the full reviews page. Real clients, real words, lightly excerpted.
The words ‘gut health expert’ jumped out at me when I was searching online for someone who could help me with suspected leaky gut. With her immense knowledge and many years of experience Caroline literally walked with me on my journey back to health. She organised test kits within days, provided dietary programmes and recommended supplements to support my recovery, was always on hand when I had questions, and reassured me when I was at my most wobbly.
I thought I understood what I needed to eat but just wasn’t eating it but she really helped me understand that it was much more complex than I realised and how nutrition was used in my body and why I was experiencing the symptoms I did. She gave me a feeling of empowerment over what and how to eat to feel more energetic and healthy.
My problems started a long time ago mainly due to work life sending stress direct to my gut. I’ve tried various people over twenty five years but I’m sorry to say they simply do not have the right expertise. Caroline’s extensive knowledge and expertise has changed my situation considerably. I can now enjoy and digest a number of foods.
I have had two consultations with Caroline since last November. I initially approached her for some advice regarding ongoing joint pains. I have found Caroline to be extremely professional throughout. She has taken the time to explain her recommendations to me and has provided clear advice that suits my lifestyle and budget.

Calne nutritionist FAQs
If your question is not answered below, just ask on the discovery call.
Where is your clinic for Calne clients?
The Swindon clinic is at Wood Street Wellbeing, 10 Wood Street, Swindon, SN1 4AB, in Old Town Swindon, a comfortable drive from Calne. There is also a Cotswolds clinic at Greatfield House, Top Road, Kempsford, GL7 4EG. Online consultations via Zoom are available for clients elsewhere in the UK.
Which areas around Calne does your clinic cover?
The Swindon clinic is conveniently located for clients across Calne, Cherhill, Bromham, Hilmarton, Compton Bassett, Yatesbury, Quemerford and the surrounding villages. For anyone further afield, online consultations cover the rest of the UK.
How is your approach different from the NHS?
The NHS does an excellent job of acute care and ruling out serious disease. Where it has less time and capacity is for the slow, complex, multi-symptom cases that need a long case history and a personalised plan. That is exactly the gap a naturopathic nutritionist fills. We work alongside, not against, your GP.
What does the 5 Month Gut Restore programme actually involve?
Six consultations spread across five months. The first is a deep case history. The next sessions implement and refine your plan based on how your body responds, including any functional testing where it is clinically useful. The five-month timeline is deliberate: gut health responds to consistent change, not crash interventions.
How do you decide which functional test (if any) to run?
Tests follow the case, not the other way around. After the first consultation, if the picture is unclear or if a specific marker is likely to change the plan, we discuss whether a particular test is worth running. We never run tests speculatively.
Will I get recipes?
You will get practical food guidance tailored to you, including suggested meals and snacks, and a “what a typical day might look like” structure. The point is sustainable changes you can build into a busy real life, not a 200-page recipe book that sits on the shelf.
What is iridology and why do you use it?
Iridology, alongside tongue and nail analysis, is a traditional naturopathic assessment tool. It is one extra source of information that, combined with a detailed case history and any functional tests, helps me build a fuller picture of your health. It is never used in isolation and never as a diagnosis.
What is the GNC and why does it matter?
The General Naturopathic Council is the regulator for Naturopathy in the UK. As a Board Member, I help shape the professional standards that any naturopath in the UK should be held to. For you as a client, it means working with someone whose accountability is public and verifiable.
