Feeling Overwhelmed By Health Advice? Here’s What Actually Works

If you’ve ever felt lost in a sea of wellness tips, TikTok trends and food fads… you’re not alone.

So many of my clients arrive feeling overwhelmed. They’ve tried all sorts of diets, supplements, or plans — and they still feel stuck, tired or confused.

That’s exactly why I sat down with the lovely Jonnie Jensen again — to talk honestly about what’s really going on in the world of health and nutrition, and how you can gently cut through the noise.

What’s Changed in Health Over the Last 15 Years?

Since I first trained as a nutritional therapist and naturopath over 15 years ago, so much has changed.

One of the biggest shifts? Our understanding of gut health. Back then, the gut microbiome wasn’t something people talked about. Now we know your gut affects everything — mood, energy, hormones, skin, immunity. It’s incredible.

I’ve also seen more people using functional testing like stool or hormone tests — these can be really helpful when used in the right way.

But perhaps the biggest change? People are more interested in their health — which is fantastic. The tricky part is filtering out all the conflicting advice. It can easily lead to confusion and frustration.

Supplements: Do You Really Need Them?

It’s become so normal to take a handful of pills every day — but do you really need them?

Many of my clients arrive with bags full of supplements. Some are helpful. But many are poor quality, unnecessary, or even interfere with medications.

✨ Here’s my gentle advice:

  • You don’t need to take everything
  • Quality is more important than quantity
  • Personalised guidance will save you money and stress
  • Less is often more.

Menopause Without the Overwhelm

Let’s talk about menopause — without making it more complicated than it needs to be.

The first step I recommend?
🌿 Go back to basics.

Focus on:

  • Eating real, nourishing food
  • Avoiding ultra-processed snacks
  • Prioritising sleep, movement and rest
  • And perhaps most importantly… putting yourself first (it’s not selfish — it’s wise)

Even small changes can make a big difference.

Weight Loss Jabs: Quick Fix or Long-Term Health?

Weight loss injections are everywhere right now. While they can help in some situations, they aren’t a magic fix.

The moment you stop taking them, the weight often comes back. That’s why we need to pair them with education and real food habits — so results last.

In sessions, I focus on:

  • Balanced meals (with protein, fibre, good fats)
  • Reducing snacking and blood sugar dips
  • Teaching people how to feel satisfied — not deprived

When you eat for health, the weight often follows naturally.

A Beautiful Eczema Recovery Story

I recently worked with an 8-year-old girl who’d struggled with severe eczema her whole life. It affected her sleep, her confidence, her school life — and her family too.

By gently supporting her gut, tweaking her food and using key nutrients, we saw a transformation over several months. No more itching. No more steroid creams. Just a bright, happy little girl again.

It’s a lovely reminder that our bodies really do want to heal — they just need the right support.

Feeling Stuck? Here’s Where to Start

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, start with one small change. Just one.

✨ Cut back on caffeine
✨ Cook one homemade meal this week
✨ Add some colour to your plate
✨ Take 5 minutes to breathe before eating

Health is a journey — not a checklist. And you don’t have to do it all at once.

When you’re ready, I’m here to help.
